Walt Whitman gocco print
Gocco print of a drawing from my Civil War Journal series, which I created while watching the recent rebroadcast of the wonderful Ken Burns documentary. I was very moved by the story, in episode six, about Whitman visiting wounded soldiers in Civil War hospitals in DC. I was also intrigued by photographs of Whitman as a young man, since I always imagine him as the old "sweaty toothed madman" that has become so much a part of popular literary culture.
